The field, or a series of repeating objects and shapes, was critical in developing a highly rigidized structure that would act as a research center. Through repetition, elements were found and drawn upon to create new spaces that could become reconstituted into a structure. In this case, the object that created the field was Palladio’s Villa Emo. The balance between creating a structure and retaining the qualities of a picturesque landscape were extremely important for this project. By sizing the research center to the same proportions as the Villa, the final structure created was not overbearing and did not overshadow the Villa itself.
